Description: Moisture Mitigation System (Flooring) - The Louisville Recreation & Senior Center had approximately 4800 sq ft of VCT that was failing due to a high moisture and alkalinity condition. After performing testing on core samples it was discovered that the concrete slab had an existing ASR condition. The City of Louisville wanted to update the VCT in several classrooms and activity rooms. The biggest challenge was that the project had to be completed during a shutdown over the course of 6 days. We were able to offer the City of Louisville a warranted solution to their concrete problems. Decor´ Flooring went in and removed the VCT and ground the concrete down by 1/4". After ensuring proper substrate preparation, an underlayment consisting of Rapid Set Cement All 4 mixed with KOSTER SB Bonding Emulsion was applied to provide a new durable concrete cap. The underlayment was then brush blasted to comply with ICRI CSP-2 followed by a coat of KOSTER VAP I 2000 installed at 75 sq ft/gal. The VCT flooring system was then installed. This project was awarded an Award of Merit for Unique Use of Concrete by the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ACI.
